Hello folks! your old mod is BACK!
Wow! I created this community many many years ago. I've since moved on as most Sam Goody stores in my area (and all around the country) have closed up shop.

But I find myself at the mercy of the great Mr Goody once again. I am in the process of getting a new job. It seems that Musicland Group has destroyed all old Sam Goody employment records from the past few years. The recruiter at my new job need to verify that I indeed worked there.

I can't seem to find any old paystubs and old tax information was destroyed in a disaster some time ago.

Does anyone know how to obtain such information? I need something that proves I worked there. I don't know if I believe that they destroyed all records to be honest with you. But I have no idea who to call so I can find out. Anyone have a phone number?

How is everyone doing? Does anyone still work for SG?

Has anyone that worked at a store that closed earlier this year received a W2 yet?  No one on my old staff has at this point.

Tonight marks the last time I'll ever work at Sam Goody 2207. The store is closing tomorrow. I loved my experience at the store thanks to the best managers and staff ever, but I won't be transferring to a nearby Coconuts store. It just wouldn't be the same. I may have only worked at the store for 10 months, but I loved my time there and wouldn't trade it for anything. The Suncoast in our mall closed today. Something to do with the lease. I don't know. It's been fun guys. <3

Suncoast rumors?
I've heard that some closed Suncoast stores will be re-opening (seems like a HUGE waste of money, to close stores and then reopen them in the SAME EXACT LOCATION), any confirmation on this? I know it's happening in at least one location.

a train of thought while trying to go to sleep:

-small stores, focused on digital downloads. (virtually) no c.d.'s
-myspace like band profiles, local/indie bands/groups/performers. locals upload their music to musicland servers
-"sounds like" like search results finding similar local artist. someone from houston searches blink-182, search links to similar local band stare-281's profile.
-musicland record label for most popular local artist (we sell them, to fans and other retailers, profit all around)
-myspace partnership? myspace has network (profiles, mp3s) already established. find on myspace, link to musicland site to buy. musicland/myspace record label? contests/battle of the bands to be signed? myspace = great promotional opportunity, 12-24 demographic very present, 84 million users in my network!

any other ideas?

I have a random question.

When Best Buy bought us back a few years ago, was the company [musicland] in financial trouble?

That's been bugging me for the past few days, and i can't find anything online to answer it.

Trans World starts switch of Sam Goody mall stores
ALBANY -- Trans World Entertainment Corp. will soon begin changing the names of mall-based Sam Goody stores to FYE, the company's signature retail store.
A week ago, the Albany-based music, video and games retailer won approval in U.S. Bankruptcy Court to buy 400 stores from Musicland Holding Corp. for $104 million. Musicland owns Sam Goody and Suncoast stores.
Trans World will keep 345 of the stores open around the country and close 55.
Sam Goody has about 90 mall stores. Trans World will hold off on changing the name of the free-standing Sam Goody locations, said Chief Financial Officer John Sullivan. (From Times Union, Albany NY newspaper 3/29/06)

Drug Testing
It looks like anyone who is staying on will be drug tested. I know that might be a problem for some of you, but not to worry. You will be asked to go to a testing station (Quest Diagnostics or Labcorp), where you will be sent into a room with a cup. You'll be told not to flush or run the water, but they will allow you to close the door.

There is a product, available in head shops and online called Quick Fix 4.0. It is synthetic urine, sold in a small 2oz bottle. It is absolutely identical in all ways to clean urine, and the labs cannot detect it. You heat it in the microwave to 100 degrees, using the temperature strip on the outside of the bottle. Then, you place the bottle in a place that will keep it near that temperature - your crotch. (If the urine you give them isn't near body temperature, they know you cheated) You go take the test, pour the bottle into the sample cup and ALSO pee (for real) in the toilet. You will DEFINITELY pass as long as the temperature is correct.

They also sell pills and drinks that supposedly work, but they don't.

Before you flame me, I don't think working a record store requires drug testing, and is an invasion of privacy. As long as you are achieving or exceeding expectations, it's none of their business if you like smoking a joint on your time off. It's not like you'll be carrying a gun or peoples lives will be at stake because you got high the night before. I'm a firm believer that as long as it's done on your own time, what you do is none of your employers business.

Getting high on the job though, thats another story. I don't do it, and have had people fired for doing exactly that.

Deleted Last Entry
Before anyone freaks out, I deleted my last thread. It was a little negetive, and the flaming was starting, and that's not what I want this to be about.

Just want a civil discussion on the topics without the you did this and you did that. Guess we can repost if we wish to talk about it some more.

For as little or much as its worth, if anyone has any questions once the transition really starts, I'll answer all questions to the best of my ability.

There are certain things I've got no idea about [backstage pass being one, as i work at a Coconuts, which is TWEC, but its one of their stand alone concepts], but hopefully I'll be able to help in some way, shape, or form.

Good luck everyone. :)

PS: Be forewarned, they're much stricter with dresscode. Make sure you know how to tuck a shirt in. :P

PPS: I can be reached on AIM at Shar0nly.

Closure Lists are in most DMs hands
Found out that DMs got the list of store closures today. Looks like 66 stores, 36 of them are Suncoast. They're supposed to have a conference call tomorrow and Friday to talk about stuff.

We're also supposed to get a packet delivered to us that we all have to sign stating something to the effect that we are now TWEC employees. Should arrive tomorrow or the next day.

Doesn't make sense on how they decided which stores to close. Several on the list are posting BIG profitability. Where's the reasoning in that?

So What's New Again?
Well, it's been about a week since we've heard anthing big, like the cancelling of the auction for those stores. Anyone got anything new they've heard?

Last thing I've got is that we all have to have inventories in 2 weeks with a Transworld Representative at the store. They start on 3/27 and go until 4/7, most of which are in the first 4 days. And I don't know who's bright idea it was, but about half of them are scheduled to start at 6am. That's gonna suck.

Anybody else got anything?

While we wait for that dreaded list of store closures, I thought I'd inject a little humor. At least our job isn't this bad.

Court Dockets
On today's court dockets it has a list of stores that had their business licenses renewed. There are 147 stores listed as "NO RENEWAL REQUESTED". Are those the stores that have been chosen to go to liquidation, and thus, no need to renew the business license?

The ones on the list are the "Go Forward" stores so I know it's not ones that have already been liquidated.

Any help much appreciated!!!
